In one small week, you should head to see From Ruin on the New Blood stage, but in the interim, have a wee peek at the bite sized pre festival interview.
How did you choose your bands name?
The name From Ruin was born from the concept of triumph and perseverance in the face of tribulation. Some of the current members were playing in various bands prior to From Ruins inception, all of those endeavours fell apart. We all came together and felt something awesome had been born from the ashes, so with the aforementioned concept we felt what a fitting name for the band.
What’s the most difficult thing you encounter as an emerging band, and how have you overcome it?
I’d have to say one of the most difficult things as an aspiring band is getting onto the bigger gigs and having the opportunity to show decent sized crowds what you’re all about . It’s akin to the chicken and the egg idea really, you need to [get] better shows to help get bigger but you need to be bigger to get the bigger shows. So you can imagine how happy we are to be playing Bloodstock 2012!!! In regards to how we’ve overcome it , well there’s no quick fix to this kind of thing but let’s say were hoping playing on the New Blood stage will help open a few doors!!
How would you describe the From Ruin‘s sound?
Epic and full of energy thats for sure! There is an abundance of influences heard in our sound ranging from modern metal heavy weights to 80s pioneers yet I’d still like to say it would be difficult to pigeon hole From Ruin. And of course the vocal styles of lead singer Anita plays a huge part in making us what we are . I’d like to think we’re straight up metal , no sub genres dropped in anywhere, we play a form of epic, energetic and melodic metal that just down right makes you want to bang your head and throw some horns!
How did you get to be a part of the festival? (if through Metal to The Masses which area?)
It was through the Metal to the Masses that we landed this slot. We entered the competition down in Bournemouth. It was hosted at the Sound Circus and we’ve got to say it was received so damn well there. Great place!! It has be one of the best venues around the south west, bands are truly looked after there and treated how they ought to be!
What are the nerves like right now? Is this your biggest ever audience/first festival appearance?
Yeh this is definitely our biggest show to date and it feels incredible!! I think the band is feeling far more excitement than any nerves really , this is an amazing opportunity for us that were gonna grab it by the balls! Also we actually got asked to play the Jagermeister acoustic stage too . If there are nerves I’d say its more for that , as we’ve never performed live acoustically before haha!!
What bands are you most looking forward to seeing at Bloodstock?
Across the band this certainly encompasses a lot!! But I’d have to say particular highlights for the band are Iced Earth, Testament, Machine Head, Behemoth, Hatebreed, Black Dahlia, Dio Disciples, Kobra and the Lotus . Well the list could go on and on but there’s certainly a few we’re looking forward to!
Are there any other up and coming bands out there you would recommend keeping an eye on right now?
Most definitely!! Saturnian for a start who are opening the festival on the Thursday , I’m yet to see them live myself too but they are an awesome band so I’m really looking forward to it. Also Control The Storm and Seprevation are definitely worth catching on the New Blood stage over the weekend, both well worthy of New Blood Stage!
Do you have any funny stories from your route to Bloodstock (or any previous times that you have been to the festival) that you would like to share with the MetalMouth readers?
To be honest it was actually a pretty smooth ride in terms of comical mishaps. Though, there was some drunken pole dancing from myself and the other guitarist after winning the first heat! Most of us have all been to various festivals together and there has always been copious amounts of antics and funny shit occurring, on that note I’m sure Bloodstock promises no different!!
Are there any messages that you would like to pass on to your fans?
Yes ….THANK YOU SO FUCKING MUCH!!!! We’ve received so much amazing feedback since landing this slot, just as we have along the way and it more than makes everything worth while! Jonny, From Ruin
