Cambion are setting tongues a wagging on the metal scene. With good reason. The south west experimentalists recently won an award as “BEST BREAKTHROUGH ACT OF 2011” at The SouthWest Music Awards.
MetalMouth caught up with vocalist Elliott for a bite sized pre festival interview.
What’s the most difficult thing you encounter as an emerging band, and how have you overcome it?
One of the hardest things has got to be money, and trying to break out of the same old circuits, and getting people to come to shows who have never heard of us! But persistence and hard work does the trick!
How would you describe Cambion‘s sound?
We are technical, heavy, dynamic and fresh!
How did you get to be a part of the festival? (if through Metal to The Masses which area?)
It was through Metal To the Masses, Devon and Cornwall.
What are the nerves like right now? Is this your biggest ever audience/first festival appearance?
It’s not our first festival but most certainly the biggest and most important one for us!
The nerves have def kicked in now, but it’s all part of the game! Mostly excited to get on the New Blood Stage and show you all what we got!
What bands are you most looking forward to seeing at Bloodstock?
We all have our favourites within the band, as all have different tastes etc, But I, (Elliott) am looking forward to Nile and Dimmu Borgir, Machine Head is a fave for sure with the guys, along with Testament..
Are there any other up and coming bands out there you would recommend keeping an eye on right now?
I/we would like to give recognition to all the bands in Devon, some real talent with bands like, 31, Backhand saloon, Furyborn, Mad Hatter 2.o, Athura, Cryostorm, Zoltar Speaks, and band mates Codex Alimentarius.. They are all so dedicated and good at what they do, damn there are so many you should be keeping an eye on!
Do you have any funny stories from your route to Bloodstock (or any previous times that you have been to the festival) that you would like to share with the MetalMouth readers?
Cough, erm uh, yeah, probably, but too rude to publish!
Are there any messages that you would like to pass on to your fans?
Thank you to every one of you,
Without your constant support, we wouldn’t be doing this today, and we certainly wouldn’t be playing at a festival like Bloodstock! See you at Bloodstock, Be sure to come check us out, say hi and drink beer with us! \m/
