As Bloodstock draws ever closer, MetalMouth wants to concentrate on the New Blood stage artists. Up next, Death metallers Kataleptic were harassed for a bite sized pre festival interview:
How did you choose your bands name?
We took the name from The Red Chord song Catalepsy. It sounded pretty cool so we looked up what it meant (a form of paralysis) and decided it was pretty cool and changed it to Kataleptic.
What’s the most difficult thing you encounter as an emerging band, and how have you overcome it?
Probably just finding the right people that fit the kind of band you want to be. We we’re all in various bands before that didn’t work out for whatever reason, and we all got along really well. We were mates before we were in this band together and I think that helps a long way to making sure we move forward as a unit rather than in multiple directions.
How would you describe Kataleptic‘s sound? How did you get to be a part of the festival? (if through Metal to The Masses which area?)
Brutal Uncompromising Birmingham Death Metal! We were part of the Birmingham heats of M2TM and up against some great bands, the win could have easily gone to bands like Baron Greenback or Wraith who are both great bands.
What are the nerves like right now? Is this your biggest ever audience/first festival appearance?
I think as it draws nearer we’re getting more excited about it! We’re just under 3 weeks away at the moment but I’m sure the closer we get to it the more nerves we’ll get. This is our first open-air festival appearance and almost certain to be our biggest thus far.
What bands are you most looking forward to seeing at Bloodstock?
We’re looking forward to seeing Behemoth, Nile, Black Dahlia Murder, Benediction, Anaal Nathrakh, Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir, Testament, Alcest, Dripback, Bloodshot Dawn and of course we’re interested in seeing some of the other unsigned acts we’ll be sharing the stage with!
Are there any other up and coming bands out there you would recommend keeping an eye on right now?
Hundreds! The live and unsigned scene is teeming with great bands. Personal faves of ours are Morgue Orgy, Haerken, Rannoch, Sarpanitum, Eradikator, Dakesis, Baron Greenback, Redmist Destruction, Agonised Deformity, Party Cannon, Christgrinder and Hellsworn… That’s just a handful right there!
Do you have any funny stories from your route to Bloodstock (or any previous times that you have been to the festival) that you would like to share with the MetalMouth readers?
This is our most hated question, turns out we’re boring bastards! We’ll leave you with the advisory that you should try and camp as far away from the Scruffy Murphys camp as possible while at BOA! Our mates, one in particular who shall not be named, can be real terrors when they’re at festivals! Be it chasing Main Stage band members out of camp sites with a metal pole or urinating on unwanted visitors. You have been warned!
Are there any messages that you would like to pass on to your fans?
Thanks for your continued support and for getting us this far! Keep it “brutal”!
