As Bloodstock gets ever closer MetalMouth caught up with Paddy from MWP (My Wooden Pillow) for a bite sized pre festival interview:
How did you choose your bands name?
Hassan and Paddy were jamming one night and had WAY too much Jagermeister and Hassan passed out on his guitar. The guitar ended up being his pillow…..My Wooden Pillow.
What’s the most difficult thing you encounter as an emerging band, and how have you overcome it?
Grabbing people’s attention when there are SO many bands around.
How would you describe MWP‘s sound?
We describe ourselves as a hardcore band but we take influence from old school hardcore, early punk, rock, thrash and everything else in between.
How did you get to be a part of the festival? (if through Metal to The Masses which area?)
We entered the Metal to the Masses competition in Manchester and won.
What are the nerves like right now? Is this your biggest ever audience/first festival appearance?
We’re focusing on rehearsals at the minute and hopefully any nerves on the day will be turned into adrenaline and energy on stage. This is our first big festival appearance as for biggest crowd? We’ll let you know after the gig. We can’t predict how many people will be there.
What bands are you most looking forward to seeing at Bloodstock?
Machine Head, Corrosion of Conformity, Iced Earth, Evile, Absolva, Sepultura, Behemoth…. the list is HUGE.
Are there any other up and coming bands out there you would recommend keeping an eye on right now?
Watch out for Derision from Wigan! We played with them recently and have some dates with them in October. Unfortunately we clash with them at Bloodstock which we’re gutted about. But there’s an overlap so you can watch us on the New Blood Stage then head to the Sophie Stage to catch the last part of their set.
Do you have any funny stories from your route to Bloodstock (or any previous times that you have been to the festival) that you would like to share with the MetalMouth readers?
None that we can share, people we know may be reading this!
Are there any messages that you would like to pass on to your fans?
We hope to see you at the New Blood Stage on Friday at Bloodstock. We’re giving out some free CD’s at the end of our set which will have an advance mix of 2 tracks from our E.P. which will be released in autumn this year. So come along, grab a CD and bang your head!
MY WOODEN PILLOW are playing the Bloodstock Festival on Friday 10th on the New Blood Stage
