One band you will absolutely thank us for telling you to go and watch on the Bloodstock New Blood stage is Canterbury based facemelters, Wretched Soul.
Seriously. Go. No, seriously.
How did you choose your bands name?
The name Wretched Soul was inspired by an old TV show about haunted locations and the paranormal. We chose this name because it denotes an emotionally dark frame-of-mind and sounds suitably harsh.
What’s the most difficult thing you encounter as an emerging band, and how have you overcome it?
The most difficult thing is simply surviving as a band these days, there are so many things that can tear a band apart before it even really gets started. We overcome this by working as a unit towards a common purpose i.e. the furtherance of the band– and supporting each other as much as possible.
How would you describe Wretched Soul‘s sound?
I’d describe it as Dark, Epic Heavy Metal! Our sound essentially mixes modern elements of Thrash, Black and Death Metal with the more traditional NWOBHM style. We draw influence from pretty much all areas of Metal and strive to reflect that in our sound.
How did you get to be a part of the festival? (if through Metal to The Masses which area?)
We were selected from the Kent region of Metal to the Masses.
What are the nerves like right now? Is this your biggest ever audience/first festival appearance?
We have played some smaller festivals this year such as Power Mad (in Kent) and Arctic Fest (in London) but Bloodstock is our first BIG festival and is undoubtedly our largest audience to date. It’s more eager anticipation than nerves to be honest. We know what we need to do and are confident that we’ll deliver a show worthy of Bloodstock.
What bands are you most looking forward to seeing at Bloodstock?
Orange Goblin (whom we’re supporting in October) Alice Cooper, Watain, Testament, Nile and Iced Earth, all of whom will put on amazing shows for sure!
Are there any other up and coming bands out there you would recommend keeping an eye on right now?
Definitely check out our mates Warhorse and Bull-Riff Stampede both are excellent bands and are playing the New Blood Stage alongside us. We also recommend checking out our friends Eastern Front over on the Sophie stage.
Do you have any funny stories from your route to Bloodstock (or any previous times that you have been to the festival) that you would like to share with the MetalMouth readers?
It’s all a bit of a beery blur to be honest, but I do recall a guy at last year’s Bloodstock who’d decided to “corpsepaint” his ball-bag in tribute to Abbath –before showing it to as many hapless festival-goers as he could– True that “Abbath jr” -as it was later dubbed- looked suitably grim and frostbitten on that chilly August night!
Are there any messages that you would like to pass on to your fans?
