We Spread Diseases is the latest edition to Scandinavian punk rock band Vietcong Pornsürfers’ repetoire.
The four piece from Falun, Sweden planned on this album sounding like it was raw and live, with no added preservatives. Does it work? Let’s find out.
VP began smashing their way around Europe playing loud punk rock during 2007, then in 2010 they released their début album Restless, Young, Hungry And Free, picking up a fan base who were eager to hear more.
Influences such as Iggy Pop And The Stooges, Gluecifer and Deadboys have assisted the four-piece in their invasion of the ears of punk fans around the globe, with their catchy lyrics making you want to blast out the tunes loud. Which might result in your neighbour asking you to turn it down, because they cannot hear their drum & bass.
The entire record smashes its way through the speakers, with its huge guitar riffs mixed with mental drumming, while the catchy lyrics make you feel like these are the best songs in the world – for example, the aptly named The Best Song is totally uplifting. A stand out tune for me is Dead Track, which brings out the seedier side of things and this is matched by the song Hate Yourself. I am not sure if this is a love song or not.
Lead vocalist Tom K is fuelled by his powerful flowing vocal skill backed up by Teddy and W. Alfie on guitar and bass respectively. Their music forms pure, powerful, almost physical motions that erupt in the mind, and I can’t help but wonder what a live set delivered by these guys would be like. Diseases is very Iggy Pop – think about the moment just before he goes off his head and shows everyone why he is one of the most revered frontmen the world has ever seen. In this track, Tom K sounds like he might be able to compete with the master.
You fight through the fields in the torrential rain, with the mud up to your thighs, sipping from a thimble of water, eating what you can. From a distance you hear a sound – “is it them?” you wonder, “is it them, armed and ready?”
Wiping away the mud and sweat from your eyes, peering from a distance – there they stand. It’s the four guys from Sweden known as the Vietcong Pornsürfers.
For Fans Of: Iggy and the Stooges, Gluecifer, Deadboys, Green Day.
